I Guess I’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling

hostess-cupcakeschoc I remember back in the day eating countless twinkies, ding dongs, and the hostess cupcakes. As a kid those treats, along with others, brought about many wonderful experiences. Now I’m 25, and the effects aren’t the same. Some would say that as you get older, your tastebuds change causing some foods to taste significantly different later on in life. I guess you could call it a sign of growing up, but it makes me sad as well.

My wife and I busted open a box of the Hostess cupcakes not too long ago. After finding a box of those long-lost treasures, the anticipation and hype of these beauties were killing us. We took out two, opened the wrappers and bit into them, only to be greeted by an unfamiliar taste. The air was filled with silent disappointment, and the bubble of expected happiness was burst by a pin coated with sadness. Like two addicted junkies, we were left unsatisfied when we shot for the same euphoric high that we had experienced before. I guess the moral of this story would be that growing up can sometimes be bittersweet and less glamorous than we once thought.

Bummer man. Reality does not equal memory. Luckily, there is plenty of junk food to take the place of your long lost treasures.
